The letter is for those who are active in a form of special full-time service. It could also be that before the last few years it was rare for a remote worker and construction volunteers did not fall under the same classification.

Darkspilver. I can even see where it can be even more complicated let's look at just the US for congregations that maybe on a border of a state or a foreign language congregation that has members in different states but meeting in the same congregation. Each state would have their own laws and it would depend on where the act took place and that is how the law would determine things.
Even in Europe where it is common for people to travel quite frequently to other countries within the union if the offense took place in one country where it might be legal for that to have occurred but was reported in another country where the age of consent is higher. How do you deal with a situation like that?

thank you darkspilver that is interesting. https://www.courts.state.co.us/Courts/Education/Youth/Laws.cfm says that the law says that the age of majority is 21 but that 18 year olds are treated as adult with some exceptions. But that the parents are still liable for their child until the age of 21. The law is an extremely complicated thing and isn't always cut and dry.

yes darkspilver and to make things even more consuming is in the US there is a range of age of consents between 16 and 18 depending on the state, this is even though the age of majority is the same in all states 18. And even to make it even worst is in some countries there are different ages of consent depending if it is heterosexual sex vs homosexual sex.

It is nothing new for those that are classified as Bethelietes. it has always been the procedure that if you are a betheliete your judicial committee might be bethelietes. Normally it would be a brother from Service, your table head and then another elder in bethel. If you are a missionary it would be the same thing except with the home overseer of the missionary home.
It is because Bethel considers those in the Religious Order of Special Full Time Servants of Jehovah's Witnesses as being a family and that the discipline would be conducted within the family. Now construction volunteers fall within that order now.
And the letter did not say that all of those cases would be handled directly by elders in bethel but that they will choose if they are to take the case directly or let the local body of elders handle it. Also, it is important for those who are remote, that if the person is reproved or the body may choose that the investigative committee doesn't have sufficient evidence to continue, bethel may want to revoke their assignment and revoke access to their systems.

I am not defending Watchtower in this by this statement. it is just merely a statement of fact. The Padron appeal will be heard in oral arguments on October 11, 2017 and the decision from the appeals court will be rendered within 90 days from the oral arguments.

https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/76761/jws-9-11
has a link to the press release about what Watchtower did that day. The Link is dead but the release is on that thread.
It also has a copy of the awake article where it does describe that people sought refuge at Brooklyn Bethel. There is another reference where Watchtower sent material aid to ground zero
I am sure everyone here is going to take those accounts with a huge grain of salt but that is what they claim.

McFarland Lawsuit
by John Davis ini am not sure if anyone heard but it does appear that the mcfarland v watchtower lawsuit has been settled.
the court only shows that it was settled so there was no longer a need for a status conference.
that is all that i know on this.

As there is nothing to say, I got nothing to say. Just stating a fact.

Repository for JW "experiences" with Hurricane Harvey
by sir82 init's only a matter of time of course..... jw rumor mills will start up soon, with stories of how jws were "first on the scene" as the flood waters receded..... how the red cross and/or us national guard and/or doctors without borders and/or [you name it] were marveling at just how "organized" the jws are..... how zealous jws were pulling their trolleys thru ankle-deep water to "offer comfort" to victims, by giving them - sandwiches?
bottled water?
to offer them comfort by giving them 16 page "magazines" to read in their spare time..... so as the stories start to come in, you can "deposit" those little nuggets of bs here.. once collected, we'll wrap them in a pretty bow and flush them away where other instances of pure manure go..

I don't get the problem with expecting that the person who does get their house repaired to give some of the insurance money. Insurance is to make a person whole not to be a windfall for the recipient.
